Moorish idol

Zanclus cornutus
French name : Idole des Maures

The Moorish idol is a striking marine fish (family Zanclidae, of which it is the sole living member) found throughout the Indo-Pacific. Its disc-shaped body carries bold black, white, and yellow bands, a long trailing dorsal filament, and a tubular snout, making it one of the most recognizable reef fishes. It is generally peaceful and often seen in pairs or small groups on the reef. In captivity, however, it is notoriously difficult, with specialized feeding requirements that many aquarists cannot meet. It demands a large, mature aquarium with abundant live rock offering sponges and encrusting growth to browse. Its natural diet centers on sponges and benthic invertebrates, and getting individuals to accept aquarium foods is challenging. Because of this delicate dietary need, it is recommended only for advanced marine aquarists.
