Adorned wrasse
The adorned wrasse is a colorful reef fish (family Labridae) from the western Indian Ocean. It has an elongated body patterned with bright green and blue horizontal lines over a reddish-orange ground, with fine markings across the head and a distinctive spot on the tail. It is a generally peaceful, active swimmer that spends the day hunting small invertebrates across the reef and buries itself in sand at night to rest. It can be kept singly or as a compatible pair. A mature reef aquarium with a deep sand bed and a tight-fitting lid is important, as this wrasse is a notorious jumper. It feeds on small crustaceans and other tiny invertebrates and readily takes frozen and prepared meaty foods. It is reef-safe with corals but may prey on ornamental shrimp and small worms. It suits intermediate marine aquarists.
