Bluechin triggerfish

The bluechin triggerfish (Xanthichthys auromarginatus) is a marine fish of the family Balistidae, native to reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Males display a striking blue patch across the chin and cheeks with yellow-edged fins, while females are more subdued grey with spotting. It swims in open water above the reef, feeding largely on zooplankton, which makes it more docile than many triggerfish. It is among the most peaceful triggerfish and can be kept in a community with other robust fish, though it retains a triggerfish's ability to defend itself. A large aquarium with plenty of open swimming space and rockwork with a cave for sleeping suits it. It uses its dorsal spine to wedge into crevices at night. It accepts a wide range of meaty frozen foods such as mysis, krill, and chopped seafood. Generally considered reef-safe with corals, though it may sample some invertebrates. Captive breeding is not established.
