Sailfin snapper

Symphorichthys spilurus
French name : Lutjan majestueux

The sailfin snapper, also called the blue-lined sea bream, is a marine fish of the family Lutjanidae found in the Indo-West Pacific over sandy and rubble bottoms near reefs. Juveniles are spectacularly marked with bright yellow and blue stripes and tall, extended fins, while adults become deeper-bodied and more subdued with age. It is a large, active predator that is peaceful toward similarly sized tankmates but will eat small fish and invertebrates. Juveniles are sometimes kept in reef displays, but the species quickly outgrows most home aquariums and needs a very large system as it matures. Because of its eventual size and strong swimming, it requires an expansive tank with open sand for foraging. It is carnivorous, feeding on invertebrates and small fish, and in captivity takes meaty foods such as shrimp, fish flesh, and marine pellets. It is best suited to public or very large private aquariums.
