Foxface rabbitfish

Siganus vulpinus
French name : Poisson-renard (foxface)

Siganus vulpinus, the foxface rabbitfish, is a member of the family Siganidae, native to reefs and lagoons of the western Pacific. It has a bright yellow body with a boldly patterned black-and-white head, and an elongated tube-like snout used to graze algae from rockwork. It is generally peaceful toward other fish, though it can be territorial with its own kind, and its dorsal and anal fin spines are venomous, so it must be handled with great care. When stressed it displays a mottled brown camouflage pattern. It needs a spacious aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter. Primarily herbivorous, it should be offered dried marine algae, nori, and vegetable-based foods, supplemented with occasional meaty items. It is a useful algae controller and is largely reef-safe, though hungry specimens may sample soft corals.
