Magnificent rabbitfish

Siganus magnificus
French name : Poisson-renard magnifique

The magnificent rabbitfish is a marine species in the family Siganidae, found in the western Pacific. It inhabits coral-rich reefs, often seen swimming in pairs. It has a striking pattern with a white front half, a broad black band through the head and eye, and a bright orange to yellow rear body and fins. This bold two-tone coloration makes it one of the most attractive rabbitfish. It is generally peaceful but, like all rabbitfish, has venomous dorsal and anal fin spines and must be handled with great care. It is a grazing herbivore useful for controlling algae, and needs a large aquarium with live rock and open swimming space. It should be offered marine algae, dried seaweed, and prepared foods. Best kept singly or as a bonded pair; suited to intermediate keepers.
