Streaked rabbitfish

Siganus javus
French name : Poisson-lapin javus

The streaked or Java rabbitfish is a marine fish in the family Siganidae, widespread across the Indo-West Pacific coasts and estuaries. It has a deep, laterally compressed body colored greenish-brown to grey with numerous pale spots and streaks, and venomous dorsal and anal spines used for defense. It is a generally peaceful, active schooling fish when young but grows large and should be handled with care because of its venomous spines. A very large aquarium with open swimming space and robust tankmates is required given its adult size. It is primarily herbivorous, grazing on algae and plant matter, and helps control nuisance algae; it should be offered dried seaweed, vegetable-based foods, and some meaty items. Its size, spines, and space needs make it more suited to large fish-only systems and keepers who can accommodate a sizeable rabbitfish.
