Sunrise dottyback
The sunrise dottyback is a beautiful Red Sea and Gulf of Aden endemic, marked by an electric blue body and a bright yellow stripe running along the back, hence its common name. It inhabits rocky reef zones where it darts between crevices. Territorial like all dottybacks, it will harass conspecifics and similarly shaped fish, so keep just one per aquarium and introduce it last. It is reef-safe with corals but may consume tiny shrimp and worms. Provide a mature reef with plenty of live rock, hiding places and a secure lid, alongside stable parameters: warm water, salinity 33 to 35 ppt, pH 8.1 to 8.4. A carnivore, it does well on mysis, enriched brine shrimp and prepared marine foods. Among the hardier dottybacks and captive-bred specimens are frequently available, making it a good choice.
