Arabian angelfish

Pomacanthus asfur
French name : Ange asfur

The Arabian angelfish, or asfur angelfish, is a large marine angelfish (family Pomacanthidae) from the Red Sea and northwestern Indian Ocean. It is a spectacular fish, deep blue over most of the body with a bold vertical yellow crescent across the midsection and a yellow tail. Adults are bold and can be territorial, particularly toward other angelfish, so it is usually kept singly. Juveniles start out with the blue-and-white banding typical of its group before transforming. A large aquarium with generous live rock provides grazing surfaces and refuge and is essential given its adult size. It is an omnivore whose natural diet includes sponges and algae, so a varied menu of angelfish preparations, marine algae, and meaty frozen foods is important. It may nip at soft corals and clams, so it is only cautiously reef-safe. Its size and dietary needs suit experienced marine keepers.
