Desjardin's sailfin tang

Desjardin's sailfin tang is a large, impressive surgeonfish of the family Acanthuridae, found in the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean. It has a tall, disc-shaped body patterned with intricate lines, spots, and bands, and can raise a huge sail-like dorsal fin to appear even larger. It is a robust, semi-aggressive tang that can be territorial toward other tangs but generally coexists with a variety of tankmates in a large enough system. Its bold personality and size make it a centerpiece fish. A very large aquarium with abundant live rock and wide-open swimming space is essential. Primarily herbivorous, it grazes filamentous algae and needs a steady supply of dried seaweed and vegetable-based foods to stay healthy and colorful. Its adult size and swimming demands make it unsuitable for small tanks.
