Sankey's dottyback
Sankey's dottyback is a small marine fish of the family Pseudochromidae, native to the Red Sea. It is boldly patterned with black-and-white horizontal stripes along the body and a splash of yellow near the tail and fins, giving it a striking appearance for its size. It is a relatively hardy but feisty and territorial species that defends a chosen rock crevice. Compared with some dottybacks it is often described as one of the more sociable, and small groups can sometimes be kept in a large tank, but it will still bully smaller or timid tankmates. It suits a reef or fish-only aquarium with abundant live rock and hiding places, which help diffuse aggression. It is a carnivore feeding on small invertebrates and readily accepts frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and prepared marine foods. Dottybacks are cave spawners and have been bred in captivity, with the male tending the egg mass.
