Orchid dottyback

Pseudochromis fridmani
French name : Dottyback de Fridman

The orchid dottyback is a marine fish (family Pseudochromidae) endemic to the Red Sea. It is a uniform, radiant purple-magenta from head to tail, with a thin dark streak through the eye, making it one of the most vividly colored small reef fishes and a hardy captive. Unlike many dottybacks it is relatively peaceful and less aggressive, though it will defend a chosen cave. It is best kept singly unless a compatible mated pair is established. It thrives in a reef aquarium with abundant live rock offering caves and crevices to patrol and hide in. A carnivore, it feeds on zooplankton and small crustaceans, accepting mysis, brine shrimp, and prepared foods. It is one of the most widely captive-bred marine fish, and tank-raised specimens are hardy, adaptable, and reef-safe.
