Social fairy wrasse

The social fairy wrasse is a small, vividly colored marine wrasse in the family Labridae, native to the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean. Males display a bright red to pink dorsal region grading into a pale belly, with a tall, sail-like dorsal fin they raise during display; females are more subdued. This species is generally peaceful and does best kept as a single male with several females, forming a small harem. It is active and constantly swimming in the open water column above rockwork, adding movement to a reef aquarium. A mature reef tank with plenty of live rock, open swimming space, and a tightly fitting lid is recommended, as fairy wrasses are notorious jumpers. It accepts most meaty foods, including mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and prepared frozen fare, and is reef-safe with corals and invertebrates.
