Golden butterflyfish
Chaetodon semilarvatus, the golden or masked butterflyfish, is a marine butterflyfish in the family Chaetodontidae, endemic to the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. It has a rounded bright yellow body with fine orange chevron lines and a distinctive blue-black patch behind the eye that gives it a masked look. It is a relatively peaceful, sociable butterflyfish that often forms pairs or small groups and hovers among coral shelter. It coexists well with other peaceful fish and, unusually for the genus, tolerates its own species. It requires a large, mature aquarium with abundant live rock and stable, pristine water. An omnivore that feeds on coral polyps and invertebrates in the wild, it can be adapted to mysis, chopped seafood, and prepared foods, but is not reef-safe as it nips corals. It is considered somewhat easier to acclimate than many butterflyfish but still needs an experienced keeper.
