Six-line wrasse

Pseudocheilinus hexataenia
French name : Labre à six lignes

The six-line wrasse is a small, fast-moving reef wrasse of the family Labridae, widespread across the Indo-Pacific. It has an orange to reddish body marked with six thin horizontal blue lines and a small false eyespot near the tail, with bright coloration that makes it a popular reef fish. Despite its small size it is bold and can be aggressive, often bullying newly introduced or timid tankmates and other wrasses as it matures. It is best kept singly and added last to a community, in a tank large enough to disperse its territoriality. It is reef-safe and helps control pest flatworms and small crustaceans. It does well in a mature reef aquarium with abundant live rock for hunting and hiding, and it requires a secure lid as it may jump. It is a carnivore feeding on small invertebrates and readily takes frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and prepared foods. It is rarely bred in home aquariums.
