Randall's anthias
Randall's anthias is a small, vibrant reef fish in the family Serranidae, found in the deeper reef slopes of the western Pacific. Females are yellow-backed with a pinkish body, while dominant males are more intensely colored, and the species shows the elongated dorsal ray typical of anthias. Like other anthias it is a haremic, shoaling planktivore best kept as one male with several females. It is peaceful toward other fish but males can spar over rank within the group. It does best in a well-established reef with strong water flow, ample swimming space, and secure caves to retreat into. Being a plankton feeder, it needs frequent small feedings of enriched frozen foods such as mysis and copepods, several times daily, to stay in condition. It is generally reef-safe and mixes well with other peaceful reef species.
