Yellowspotted anthias

The yellowspotted anthias is a small marine reef fish in the family Serranidae, subfamily Anthiadinae, found on deep reef slopes of the western and central Pacific. It has a pale to pinkish body dusted with small yellow spots, in keeping with the delicate coloration typical of anthias. It is a planktivore that gathers in aggregations along reef edges, picking zooplankton from the current, and, like related species, can change from female to male. It is a demanding aquarium fish that needs a mature reef system with strong flow, generous swimming space, and plentiful hiding places. Frequent small feedings of enriched zooplankton substitutes such as mysis, copepods, and brine shrimp are essential to sustain it. It is reef-safe and peaceful, best kept in a small harem. Because it is uncommon in the trade and its exact requirements are not well documented, it suits experienced keepers.
