Maroon clownfish
The maroon clownfish is the largest anemonefish, in the family Pomacentridae, found across the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean. It associates with the bubble-tip anemone in the wild. It has a deep maroon to reddish body crossed by white or golden bars and bears a small spine on the cheek, which gives it the alternate name spine-cheeked clownfish. Females grow much larger than males. It is the most aggressive of the clownfish and can be territorial, so tankmates should be chosen carefully and it is usually kept as a single bonded pair. It is hardy in a reef aquarium and will readily host a suitable anemone though it does not require one. It accepts varied meaty and prepared foods. It can be bred in captivity. Suited to intermediate keepers who can manage its temperament.
About the name : Still sold as Premnas biaculeatus, the name used here. Since 2021 the genus Premnas has been merged into Amphiprion, so the currently accepted name is Amphiprion biaculeatus — the same fish, nothing changes in its care.
