Blueface angelfish

The blueface angelfish (Pomacanthus xanthometopon) is a large marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Adults have a yellow-and-blue mottled body with a striking blue-marked face and a dark spot at the rear of the dorsal fin, while juveniles show the dark blue and white barred pattern typical of the genus. It is a semi-aggressive, territorial fish that grows large and needs its own space, best kept singly with other robust tankmates. A very large aquarium with abundant live rock for grazing and shelter and excellent water quality is essential. Its natural diet includes sponges, tunicates, and algae, so it requires angelfish preparations containing sponge along with marine algae and meaty foods. It is not reliably reef-safe, as it nips corals and clam mantles. It can be shy when first introduced. Captive breeding is not established.
