Sixbar angelfish

Pomacanthus sexstriatus
French name : Ange à six bandes

The sixbar angelfish is a large marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to the Indo-West Pacific. Juveniles are dark blue with vertical white and electric-blue bars, while adults become olive to yellowish with numerous fine spots and a series of dark bars, and a bright margin on the fins. It is a bold, semi-aggressive fish that grows large and needs plenty of space. It is territorial, especially toward other angelfish, and is best kept as the only large angel in the tank. It is not considered fully reef-safe, as it may nip corals and clam mantles. Due to its adult size it requires a very large aquarium with abundant live rock providing caves and grazing surfaces. It is an omnivore, and its diet should include marine algae, sponge-based angelfish preparations, and meaty foods. A varied, high-quality diet and stable water quality are important for long-term health in this substantial species.
