Goldtail angelfish

Pomacanthus chrysurus, the goldtail angelfish, is a marine angelfish in the family Pomacanthidae, native to reefs of the western Indian Ocean and Red Sea. Adults are dark brownish with fine pale spotting and vertical bars, and a bright yellow tail, while juveniles are dark with vivid blue and white bars and a yellow tail. It is a bold, territorial angelfish best kept singly, as it can be aggressive toward other angels and similarly shaped fish. It becomes more assertive as it matures. It requires a large, mature aquarium with abundant live rock for grazing, shelter, and territorial structure. An omnivore that grazes on sponges and algae in the wild, it should be fed angelfish preparations with sponge, marine algae, and meaty foods. It is not considered reef-safe, as it commonly nips corals and sessile invertebrates. It is a comparatively uncommon species requiring experienced care.
