Venustus angelfish

The venustus angelfish is a small, deepwater marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to the western Pacific around Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines. It is boldly patterned with electric-blue and bright-yellow, one of the most beautiful of the pygmy angelfishes. It is an omnivore that grazes on sponges, tunicates, and algae along shaded reef walls and caves, typically coming from deeper, cooler water than most reef fish. It is a shy, retiring species that can be challenging to acclimate and feed, so it suits experienced aquarists. It needs a peaceful, well-established tank with abundant live rock, caves, and dim areas that mimic its natural habitat, along with a varied diet including sponge-based angelfish foods, mysis, and algae. It is only cautiously reef-safe and should be kept with calm tankmates that will not outcompete it for food.
