Redspot cardinalfish

The redspot cardinalfish is a small marine fish in the family Apogonidae, found in the Indo-Pacific. It has a semi-translucent, pale body with reddish and coppery highlights and the large eyes typical of nocturnal cardinalfish. It is a peaceful, shy species that is most active at dusk and night, sheltering among rocks and branching corals during the day. It can be kept singly, in a pair, or in a small group in a calm aquarium. A reef tank with plenty of shaded caves and overhangs helps it feel secure, and calm, non-aggressive tankmates are essential. It is a carnivore feeding on small zooplankton and crustaceans, and does best with regular feedings of small meaty frozen foods such as mysis and brine shrimp. Like many cardinalfish, males are paternal mouthbrooders, incubating eggs in the mouth.
