Multispine damselfish

Neoglyphidodon polyacanthus
French name : Demoiselle multi-epines

The multispine damselfish is a robust pomacentrid from subtropical and tropical reefs of the western Pacific and eastern Australia, where adults patrol rocky and coral-rich slopes. Juveniles are attractively marked with blue and orange lines, but adults fade to a plain dusky brown and grow large and pugnacious. It is extremely hardy and adaptable, tolerating a wide range of reef conditions, which makes it easy to keep but a poor community citizen. House one per tank, ideally added last, and only with equally assertive fish; it will harass smaller, timid species and defend a territory vigorously. Provide plenty of live rock with caves and open swimming space. Diet is omnivorous: offer marine flake and pellet, frozen mysis and enriched brine, plus some algae-based food. Standard reef parameters, stable salinity and good filtration keep it thriving for many years.
