Spotted unicornfish

The spotted or brown unicornfish is a large surgeonfish in the family Acanthuridae, widespread across the tropical Indo-Pacific. Adults develop a long horn-like projection from the forehead, a brownish body that can change tone, and bright blue-edged tail spines; the body may show fine spotting and dark markings. It is a mostly peaceful but very large and active fish that requires a great deal of open swimming space and is best kept with robust tankmates. A very large aquarium of several hundred liters with strong flow and open water is essential. Unlike many tangs, this species feeds heavily on drifting algae and zooplankton in the water column, so it should be offered seaweed, vegetable matter, and meaty foods. Its eventual size makes it suitable only for large systems and experienced keepers.
