Indian triggerfish

The Indian triggerfish is a marine triggerfish of the family Balistidae, found on reefs of the Indian Ocean and into the western Pacific. It has a dark, deep-bodied form with a pale line along the base of the dorsal and anal fins and pale-edged tail, giving it a subtle but elegant appearance compared with gaudier triggers. It is a semi-aggressive fish that becomes bolder and more territorial with age, and is best kept singly with robust tankmates able to hold their own. A large aquarium with plenty of live rock arranged with caves for retreat suits it, and like all triggers it can rearrange rockwork and rubble. It is an omnivore feeding on zooplankton, algae and small invertebrates in the wild; in captivity it takes meaty foods, marine algae and prepared diets. It is not reef-safe with small invertebrates and may nip corals.
