Smith's fang blenny
Smith's fang blenny is a small marine blenny of the family Blenniidae, native to the western Pacific. It has a slender pale body with dark stripes and a striking sail-like dorsal fin. Like other fang blennies it possesses venomous canine teeth used for defense, which deter predators. It is a generally peaceful, hovering fish that occupies the mid-water more than most bottom-dwelling blennies. It can be kept singly or as a pair; multiple individuals may quarrel unless the tank is large. Its venomous fangs make it largely immune to harassment, so it can hold its own in a community. It is reef-safe and does well in a peaceful reef aquarium with live rock and hiding spots such as small holes and abandoned tubes to shelter in. It is a planktivore, feeding on zooplankton in the water column, and should be offered frequent small meals of frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and finely prepared foods.
