Ornate leopard wrasse

The ornate leopard wrasse is a marine wrasse (family Labridae) from the Indo-Pacific. Both sexes are patterned with an intricate mosaic of green, orange, and dark spotting resembling a leopard's coat, with males and females differing somewhat in color intensity and detail. It is peaceful and can be kept singly or in small groups, but it is delicate. Leopard wrasses bury themselves in the sand at night and when stressed, and they can be difficult to establish and feed. It requires a mature reef aquarium with a deep bed of fine sand for burrowing and a healthy population of copepods and amphipods, as it grazes microfauna continuously. Many specimens are slow to accept frozen foods such as mysis. Its sensitivity to shipping stress and specialized feeding make it best suited to experienced reef keepers with well-established systems.
