Divided leopard wrasse

Macropharyngodon bipartitus
French name : Macropharyngodon bipartitus

The divided leopard wrasse is a beautifully patterned wrasse of the family Labridae, found in the western Indian Ocean. Males are green with orange and blue markings, while females and juveniles show a mottled leopard-like pattern of dark and pale blotches. It is a peaceful, active fish that dives into the sand to sleep and when startled. It is best kept in a calm reef community, as it can be shy and is easily outcompeted by aggressive feeders. A mature reef aquarium with a deep, fine sand bed and abundant live rock supporting a healthy population of copepods and small invertebrates is essential. It is a carnivore that grazes constantly on tiny crustaceans; newly imported specimens are often difficult to feed and may need live foods. Its delicate acclimatization makes it a species for experienced reef keepers.
