Rainford's goby

Rainford's goby is a small, colorful marine goby (family Gobiidae) from the reefs of the western Pacific. Its body is olive-green with horizontal orange stripes and blue flecks, giving it a jewel-like appearance among the more common bottom-dwellers. It is peaceful and generally reef-safe, spending most of its time perched on rock and sand while grazing. It can be kept singly or as a mated pair, and tolerates other calm tankmates well. This goby needs a mature, established reef aquarium with plenty of live rock and film algae, as it grazes on microalgae, detritus, and small benthic organisms. It can be difficult to keep well fed in sterile tanks and benefits from supplemental feedings of frozen mysis and enriched brine shrimp. A tight-fitting lid is advised, as gobies may jump.
