Common/yellow seahorse

The common or yellow seahorse is a member of the family Syngnathidae found across the Indo-Pacific. It has the classic seahorse form, with a horse-like head, prehensile tail, and an upright posture, ranging in color from yellow and orange to brown and near-black. Seahorses are slow, deliberate swimmers that are peaceful and easily outcompeted for food. They are best kept in a dedicated species tank, in pairs or small groups, away from fast or aggressive fish and stinging invertebrates. They require calm water flow, hitching posts such as macroalgae or artificial holdfasts, and frequent feedings of enriched frozen mysis; many need weaning from live food. As with all seahorses, the male broods the eggs in a belly pouch and gives birth to live young. They demand pristine water and attentive care.
