Longfin bannerfish
The longfin bannerfish is a butterflyfish relative in the family Chaetodontidae, widespread across the Indo-Pacific. It is often confused with the moorish idol but is unrelated. It has a disc-shaped white body crossed by two broad black bands, yellow dorsal and tail fins, and a long trailing white filament extending from the dorsal fin. This elegant pennant gives the fish its name. It is generally peaceful and can be kept singly, in pairs, or in small groups in a large aquarium. Hardier than many butterflyfish, it adapts well to captivity and accepts a varied diet of meaty and prepared foods, including mysis, brine, and marine flakes. It is considered reef-cautious, as it may nip at some invertebrates. It needs ample swimming space and suits intermediate marine keepers.
