Golden trevally

Gnathanodon speciosus
French name : Carangue dorée

The golden trevally is a large, fast-swimming jack found across the Indo-Pacific, where juveniles pilot alongside sharks and larger fish while adults roam open reef edges and sandy flats. Juveniles are strikingly yellow with black bars, fading to silvery-gold with age. This is a species for very large public-scale or dedicated predator systems only, as adults exceed one metre and require enormous open swimming volume and powerful filtration. Keep water at reef parameters: temperature 24-27C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 33-35 ppt. A robust carnivore, it takes meaty foods such as shrimp, mussel, squid and whole fish, foraging by sifting sand. Generally not aggressive but its size and speed make it unsuitable for typical home aquaria and delicate tankmates.
