Snowflake moray

The snowflake moray is a marine eel of the family Muraenidae, widespread across the Indo-Pacific. It has a pale, elongated body patterned with dark blotches and a flecked, snowflake-like speckling, along with nostrils extended into small tubes. Unlike many morays it has blunt, pebble-like teeth suited to crushing hard-shelled prey. It is a hardy, mostly nocturnal predator that is relatively docile toward fish tankmates too large to eat, but it will readily consume crustaceans and small fish. It is generally kept singly, though more than one can sometimes share a very large tank. It needs a spacious aquarium with plenty of rockwork forming caves, and above all a tightly sealed lid, as morays are exceptional escape artists. It is a carnivore best fed meaty foods such as shrimp, silversides, and squid on a feeding stick. It is not reef-safe with respect to invertebrates but generally ignores corals.
