Twospot bristletooth

Ctenochaetus binotatus
French name : Ctenochaetus binotatus

The twospot bristletooth is a surgeonfish of the family Acanthuridae, distributed across the Indo-Pacific. It is a bristletooth tang with a brownish body finely marked with blue and green lines and yellow around the eye, taking its name from spots near the tail base in some individuals. It uses comb-like teeth to graze film algae and detritus from rock surfaces, making it primarily a herbivore that also consumes detritus. It is generally peaceful, though it will defend a grazing territory against other tangs. In the aquarium it helps manage nuisance algae and is considered reef-safe. It requires a mature tank with abundant live rock for grazing, open swimming space, and supplemental vegetable-based foods such as dried algae sheets. As with other tangs, stable water quality and good oxygenation reduce the risk of stress-related skin parasites.
