Pink-speckled shrimpgoby

The pink-speckled shrimpgoby is a marine fish of the family Gobiidae, native to sandy and rubble bottoms of the Indo-Pacific. It has a pale tan to grayish body finely speckled with pink and blue spots, and a large mouth typical of burrow-dwelling gobies. Like other shrimp gobies it commonly shares a burrow with an alpheid pistol shrimp in a mutualistic partnership, standing guard at the entrance. It is generally peaceful but can be territorial toward other gobies over its burrow. It requires a sand or fine rubble substrate for digging and does best when paired with a pistol shrimp. It is a carnivore taking small meaty foods such as mysis, brine shrimp and finely chopped seafood. Reef-safe and suited to a peaceful reef aquarium, it appreciates plenty of open bottom space and a secure lid, as shrimp gobies are prone to jumping when startled.
