Yellow watchman goby

Cryptocentrus cinctus
French name : Gobie garde jaune

The yellow watchman goby is a marine shrimp goby in the family Gobiidae, found on sandy and rubble reef bottoms of the western Pacific. It occurs in a bright yellow form as well as a spotted grayish form, with pale blue speckling on the head and a stout, alert posture. It is well known for its symbiotic partnership with pistol shrimp, sharing a burrow that the shrimp excavates while the goby keeps watch for predators. It is a hardy, reef-safe species ideal for a peaceful marine or reef aquarium with a sand bed for burrowing and, ideally, a companion pistol shrimp. It tends to stay near its burrow and may be shy at first but becomes bolder over time. A secure lid is recommended as it can jump. It feeds on meaty foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, and suits beginner to intermediate keepers.
