Panther grouper

Chromileptes altivelis
French name : Mérou bossu

The panther grouper is a marine fish of the family Epinephelidae (sea basses and groupers), widespread across the Indo-Pacific. Juveniles are white with rounded black spots and an exaggerated humpbacked, high-finned shape that becomes less pronounced and grayer with age. It is a solitary, predatory fish that will eat any tankmate small enough to swallow, and grows large, so it is best regarded as a specimen fish for spacious aquariums. It needs a very large tank with robust filtration to handle its heavy waste output and messy feeding. Its diet is carnivorous, based on meaty marine foods such as chunks of fish, shrimp and squid. While hardy and personable, its eventual adult size and appetite make it unsuitable for typical reef or community setups, and it should be housed only with fish too large to be eaten.
