Blueside fairy wrasse

The blueside fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura) is a marine reef wrasse of the family Labridae, native to reefs of the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean. Coloration is variable, with males showing greenish to reddish bodies and a distinctive blue patch on the sides behind the head, intensifying during courtship display. It is an active but generally peaceful fish that can be kept singly or as one male with several females in a larger aquarium. It mixes well with other peaceful reef fish. A reef aquarium with plenty of open swimming space, live rock, and a tight-fitting lid is important, as fairy wrasses are accomplished jumpers. It feeds on zooplankton and accepts a range of small meaty frozen foods offered frequently. Reef-safe with corals and invertebrates. Males display intensified color to attract females, and while spawning occurs, rearing in captivity is uncommon.
