Black-bar chromis

The black-bar chromis (Chromis retrofasciata) is a small marine damselfish of the family Pomacentridae, native to reefs of the western Pacific. It has a dusky brown to greyish body marked by a dark vertical bar near the tail base, giving it a subtle but attractive appearance well suited to smaller reef systems. It is one of the more peaceful damselfish and can be kept singly or in small groups, where it hovers near cover rather than roaming aggressively. Its calm nature makes it a good reef community fish. A reef aquarium with plenty of live rock and branching coral for shelter suits it well, as it retreats quickly when startled. It feeds on zooplankton and accepts a range of small frozen and prepared foods offered in frequent small portions. Reef-safe with corals and invertebrates. Occasional captive breeding has been reported but is not commercially common.
