Harlequin tuskfish

The harlequin tuskfish is a striking marine wrasse of the family Labridae, found on reefs of the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean. It is boldly banded in orange and blue-white and, most distinctively, has prominent blue-tipped canine teeth that give the fish its name and betray its predatory nature. It is a semi-aggressive, robust fish that becomes territorial as it grows and is best kept singly in the community except in very large systems. A large aquarium with substantial live rock and open swimming space is required. It is a carnivore that preys on crustaceans, molluscs and other invertebrates, so it is reef-safe with corals but not with ornamental shrimp, crabs or clams. It accepts meaty foods such as shrimp, mussel and other chopped seafood; a varied protein diet helps maintain its bright colors and tooth health.
