Latticed butterflyfish

The latticed butterflyfish is a marine species in the family Chaetodontidae, found across coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It frequents areas rich in hard and soft corals. The body is yellowish to greenish with a fine cross-hatched lattice pattern formed by dark-edged scales, a black bar through the eye, and dark markings toward the tail. This netted patterning is its most recognizable feature. It is generally peaceful but can be difficult to maintain because its natural diet includes coral polyps and anemones, making it unsuitable for reef aquariums. It needs a large, well-established fish-only system with plenty of swimming space and stable water quality. Feeding can be challenging; it may require varied meaty and marine offerings to accept aquarium foods, and it is best regarded as a species for experienced keepers.
