Raccoon butterflyfish

The raccoon butterflyfish is a marine fish of the family Chaetodontidae, widespread across the Indo-Pacific. It has a yellow to orange body, a black eye band bordered with white that gives a raccoon-mask appearance, and a dark saddle across the upper rear body. It is a relatively hardy and adaptable butterflyfish, often kept singly or as a pair, and is generally peaceful though it can be bold at feeding time. It needs a spacious tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter and stable water quality. It is an omnivore feeding on algae, small invertebrates, and in the wild coral polyps and anemones, so a varied captive diet of frozen, meaty and prepared foods is important. It is not reliably reef-safe, as it may nip corals and anemones. One of the more durable butterflyfish, it is a good choice for fish-only or carefully chosen setups managed by intermediate keepers.
