Double-saddle butterflyfish

The double-saddle butterflyfish is a reef fish of the family Chaetodontidae, found across the Indo-Pacific. It has a white to pale yellow body marked by two large dark saddle patches on the upper back, with yellow along the rear body and fins and a black band through the eye. It is a generally peaceful fish that in the wild often lives in pairs. It does well with calm tankmates but can be shy, and multiple butterflyfish should only be combined with care in large tanks. A spacious aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing suits it, though it is not reliably reef-safe, as it may nip corals and other invertebrates. It is carnivorous, feeding on coral polyps, small invertebrates, and worms in the wild; in captivity it needs varied meaty foods and can be slow to start feeding. It suits experienced marine keepers.
