Speckled butterflyfish
The speckled butterflyfish is a small marine butterflyfish in the family Chaetodontidae, widely distributed across the tropical Indo-Pacific. It has a pale cream to yellowish body densely covered with rows of fine dark spots, a yellow-edged margin, and a dark bar through the eye. This is one of the hardier and more peaceful butterflyfish, generally reef-tolerant compared to strictly coral-eating relatives. It can be kept singly or as a compatible pair and mixes well with other calm reef fish. A mature aquarium with live rock for grazing and open swimming space is recommended. It is omnivorous, feeding on algae, small invertebrates, and detritus in the wild, and accepts mysis, brine shrimp, and prepared foods in captivity. While more coral-tolerant than most Chaetodon, it may nip at some soft corals and polyps.
