Coral hind

The coral hind is a small grouper of the family Serranidae, widespread on Indo-Pacific reefs. It has a vivid orange to red body densely covered in small bright blue spots, making it one of the more colorful groupers. It is a bold, predatory fish that is territorial toward other groupers and will readily eat any fish or crustacean small enough to swallow. It is best kept singly with larger, robust tankmates in a fish-only or large reef system. A spacious aquarium with substantial rockwork providing caves and ledges suits its ambush lifestyle. It is strictly carnivorous, taking meaty foods such as whole shrimp, fish, and squid; it should not be overfed given its slow metabolism. Its eventual size and predatory habits mean it needs a large tank and careful tankmate selection.
