Midnight angelfish

The midnight angelfish is a dwarf angelfish (family Pomacanthidae) from the western Pacific. It is uniformly velvety black across the whole body and fins, an unusually plain but elegant coloration for the genus Centropyge, with only subtle iridescence catching the light. Like most dwarf angels it is territorial and can be semi-aggressive, especially toward other dwarf angelfish. It is best kept as the only Centropyge in a tank of moderate size, where it will establish a home range among the rockwork. A mature reef or fish-only aquarium with plentiful live rock for grazing and hiding suits it well. It is an omnivore that browses algae and microfauna; its diet should include marine algae, spirulina, and meaty frozen foods. Caution is advised in reef tanks, as some individuals nip coral polyps and clam mantles.
