Valentini toby

The Valentini toby, or saddled puffer, is a small marine pufferfish of the family Tetraodontidae, widespread across the Indo-Pacific. It has a white body marked with four dark saddles and fine yellow-brown spots, with yellow-tinged fins, and is famously mimicked by a harmless filefish. It is an omnivore that feeds on algae, tunicates, corals, and small invertebrates, using its beak-like fused teeth. Despite its small size it has a bold personality. In the aquarium it is hardy and personable but not reef-safe, as it will nip corals, clams, and invertebrates and may bite the fins of slow tankmates. It needs a varied meaty diet including hard-shelled foods to help wear down its continuously growing teeth. It is best kept singly or in fish-only or robust community systems with tankmates that can tolerate its occasional nipping.
