Comet / marine betta

The comet, or marine betta, is a nocturnal reef fish of the family Plesiopidae from the Indo-Pacific. Its dark brown body is covered in small white spots, and a large false eyespot on the rear dorsal fin mimics the head of a moray eel to deter predators. It is a secretive, slow-moving fish that is peaceful toward most tankmates but will prey on very small fish and shrimp. It appreciates a quiet, unhurried community and can be shy around boisterous species. A reef or fish-only tank with plenty of caves and overhangs suits it, as it hides by day and emerges at dusk. It is carnivorous, taking meaty foods such as mysis and chopped seafood; newly imported specimens may need live food to start feeding. It is durable once settled and suitable for patient intermediate keepers.
