Indian yellowtail angelfish

The Indian yellowtail angelfish is a marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae, native to reefs of the Indian Ocean, especially around Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Adults have a smoky charcoal-brown to grayish body set off by a bright yellow tail and yellow eye-ring, an understated but attractive pattern. It is moderately territorial and can be aggressive toward other angelfish, so it is usually kept singly and given a well-established tank with grazing surfaces. A mature aquarium of several hundred liters with abundant live rock allows it to graze naturally and reduces stress. It is an omnivore that browses on sponges, tunicates and algae in the wild, so a varied diet including sponge-based angel preparations, marine algae and meaty foods is important for long-term health. It is generally not considered reliably reef-safe, as it may nip corals and clam mantles.
